
Aziz was born on April 28, 1936 in Jalandhar. After partition, his family migrated to Pakistan and settled in Sahiwal, where he received his early education.
He started his career with Radio Pakistan in the 1960s and later became the first television host in Pakistan.
His program Neelam Ghar - later renamed Tariq Aziz Show - started on Pakistan Television in 1974 and lasted for four decades. He was also a poet and actor and performed in many radio and television programs as well as films.

His first film, Humanity, was released in 1967. Other notable titles in which he played include Birthday, Qasim Asoqat Ki, Katari and The Lost Man.
For his services to the entertainment industry, he was awarded the Pride of Performance Award by the government in 1992.
Aziz also worked in politics and was a member of the National Assembly from 1997-99.
Expressing condolences to Aziz's family, PML-N chief Shahbaz Sharif said that the TV personality was a patriot who proved his point.
